Press Releases / Coverage > MSC-status firms at HK Filmart meet

CYBERJAYA: Five MSC Malaysia status companies from the Creative Multimedia cluster will feature their productions at the 13th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (HK Filmart 2009).

The cross-media, cross-industry entertainment trade platform will take place from March 23-26 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai.

The companies -- Animasia Studio, Asia Pacific VideoLab, Cartoon4kids, KRU Studios and Les'Copaque Productions -- will be part of a trade mission jointly organised by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the National Film Development Corporation (Finas).

Other supporting agencies include the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation with the collaboration of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

HK Filmart 2009 is expected to bring together 483 companies and over 4,000 trade visitors from 50 countries around the world, with more than 80% coming from the Asia Pacific region, MDeC said in a statement Monday.

Its vice-president of creative multimedia, Kamil Othman, said the main objective of the trade mission was to help the companies find opportunities to market their products at a global platform.

Trade delegates will be attending the event "to exhibit, find partners, source products and explore new opportunities in the Chinese mainland and the booming Asian market beyond.

"It is a great platform for Malaysian companies to join them and take advantage of the growing opportunities in the burgeoning Asian entertainment market," he said.

He also said that Malaysia had a lot to offer and should take advantage of the global creative multimedia pie, which will has been projected to be worth US$650bil (RM2.4 trillion) by 2011.

"This should be enough motivation for anyone and any country to take content creation seriously," Kamil said.

At the same event last year, a similar trade mission generated an outcome export sales value amounting to RM44mil with two memoranda of understanding and five memorandum of agreements being sealed, MDeC said in its statement.
